Starting Sept. 20, East Bay residents, including residents in the Richmond area, will have access to a new service providing same-day home deliveries of fresh foods and household essentials from Target, CVS, Safeway and Foods Co.
Shipt, the same-day delivery marketplace launched in Birmingham, Ala., in 2014, allows members to browse, search and shop store products online, choose preferences and request a one-hour delivery window. After paying for their order in their app, Shipt staff heads to the store, shops for you, then delivers to your door within the one-hour window.
An annual membership for $99 grants users access to free, unlimited delivery on orders of more than $35.
Shipt’s launched in Birmingham, the hometown of its CEO and founder Bill Smith, and has since expanded to more than 200 markets across the country. In March 2016, the company opened an office in San Francisco to take advantage of the region’s technology talent.
Shipt is beginning its California expansion in the Bay Area, with plans to open in Central and Southern California in the fall.
Right now, medications requiring a prescription or identification to purchase will not be available on the Shipt marketplace through CVS, the company said.
To celebrate this announcement, new Northern California Shipt members who sign up before Sept. 20 will receive an annual membership for $49 (regularly $99).
