A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder of Kishana Harley, a well-liked community activist who was found fatally stabbed in her apartment at Monterey Pines Apartments on Berk Avenue in Richmond on July 19, police said.
Richmond Police Chief Allwyn Brown reported online that the teen was arrested on a Ramey murder warrant by Richmond homicide detectives Tuesday night. The arrest followed several weeks of intense collaborative investigation, police said. He was interviewed before being booked into Juvenile Hall. No further details, including a motive for the murder, were released.
The day Harley was found, officers responded to her apartment to perform a welfare check after she did not show up for work as expected. She was found lying on the floor with stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
“The Contra Costa District Attorney will make a criminal filing decision over the coming days,” Mayor Butt reported.
