Volunteers sought! Richmond families to receive clothing, books and groceries

Richmond offering affordable Spring Break camp for K-6

The Richmond Community Services Department is encouraging community members to volunteer at a charitable event on Saturday that will provide hundreds of local residents in need with new clothes, groceries, books and toys.

Hosted by White Pony Express, a new and lightly used clothing boutique and grocery event will take place starting at 11 a.m. at the Richmond Recreation Complex, 3230 Macdonald Ave.

The event will benefit participants of the City of Richmond summer camp program. In total, about 550 people are expected to benefit during three store shopping sessions at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Each shopping session will be fully restocked to ensure all shoppers have good options.

Volunteers are needed for the front of house team and as exit hosts between 9:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“We have people who hand out tickets, people who take the tickets upon entry, and people who stamp the guest’s hand when exiting to indicate the person has been through the store,”  said Ranjana Maharaj, community services administrative manager for the City of Richmond.

Those interested in volunteering should sign up with the link in the email and/or check in at the volunteer desk tomorrow in the Social Hall to register, Maharaj said. See the flyer for more information.
