Beloved Richmond veterinarian retires
Longtime Richmond veterinarian Dr. Han was celebrated at a farewell party attended by about 150 people and pets from neighborhoods throughout Richmond and El Cerrito at the Sit and Stay Cafe at Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline on July 29, 2018.

A giant in the pet owners community, Dr. Han, known as the exceptionally talented veterinarian and owner of the Richmond Veterinary Hospital on Macdonald Avenue, retired at the end of July.

On Sunday afternoon, about 150 people and pets from neighborhoods throughout Richmond and El Cerrito stopped by the Sit and Stay Cafe at Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline to say thank you and to wish Dr. Han and his wife, master groomer Nancy Kallenbach-Han, a fond and admiring farewell in retirement. Neighbors brought a cake, potluck items, snacks from the Sit and Stay, and gifts to the party.

A graduate of UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Han started as a veterinarian at Lammers Animal Hospital in San Pablo. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Han established his own practice and has run the Richmond Veterinary Hospital for over 40 years. He is renown among his peers as a magically skilled surgeon, and beloved among hundreds of local pet owners including the RPD’s canine unit.

The newer doctor at the pet hospital, Dr. Kwon, an excellent and well-liked vet, took over the clinic at the beginning of August.
