The community is invited to the 2nd Annual Spring Clean-Up and Chess in the Park event in downtown Richmond on Saturday, June 9.

Green thumbs and chess lovers are encouraged to come to the Community Green Space at Macdonald Avenue and Harbour Way to help beautify the park ahead of the summer season from 9 a.m. to noon. The work will include weeding, pruning, debris pick-up, refreshing planters and other light gardening work.

And then from noon to 2 p.m., lunch and chess play will occur at the park.

The clean-up efforts will support Richmond Main Street Initiative preparations for upcoming summer events such as the Healthy Village Festival on June 23.

The chess play portion of the event is open and welcome to all members of the community regardless of skill level, playing style, age, or background.
Individuals interested in volunteering for the clean-up are encouraged to sign-up online at here or by contacting Alicia Gallo, Richmond Main Street at (510) 236-4049 or outreach@richmondmainstreet.org. Pre-registration is encouraged; walk-ins are welcome. Tools and supplies will be provided, though volunteers are welcome to bring their own.
Spring Clean-Up & Chess in the Park is hosted by Richmond Main Street Initiative and West Coast Chess Alliance, with generous support from City of Richmond.
