Menbere Aklilu, an Ethiopian immigrant, domestic violence survivor and the charitable owner of Richmond’s Salute E Vita Ristorante, has announced that all sales at her restaurant on Friday, Sept. 8 will be donated to assist Hurricane Harvey victims.

“Out of 197 countries, I chose and [was attracted to] the Unites States of America because of the generosity, because of the opportunity,” Aklilu stated in a brief video on Facebook. “America opened the door for me, gave me hope and a home for me and my son. From homelessness to success. Now it’s my turn to give back to America.”

In addition, the staff at Salute is donating 10-percent of their Friday tips to the hurricane victims.

“I’m proud of them,” Aklilu said.
