RPD unveils ‘exchange zone’ to curb robberies related to online sales

As we reported last week, the Richmond Police Department has set aside two parking stalls at its headquarters at 1701 Regatta Blvd. to allow for a Community Exchange Zone, where residents can safely conduct “private party transactions and custody exchanges.”

The announcement was made after RPD identified suspects connected to recent robberies related to online sales, where buyers and sellers were lured into meeting with the robbers. From December 2016 to June this year, police identified nine victims of this type of robbery in Richmond.

As shown above, RPD has released footage of the new Community Exchange Zone, which features yellow painted parking stalls and signs that are visible to officers through the front doors of the department. The stalls also feature lighting and surveillance cameras.

RDP reminds the public that the exchange of drugs, alcohol, firearms or any illegal items is prohibited.
