Ground has broken on the new Starbucks planned at the corner of the Harbor Gate Shopping Center at 2175 Meeker Ave. in Richmond.
Work crews told us Friday the construction might take up to four months.
In October last year, the Richmond Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit to add a Starbucks Coffee store at the northwest corner of the shopping center, which also has family-owned Cafe Pascal.
The commission’s approval came despite some opposition to the Starbucks’ impact on small businesses, aesthetics, traffic and parking. Supporters argued that the growing Marina Bay community, which includes the new Officer Bradley A. Moody Memorial Underpass, are starved for services.
