Fire destroys roof of abandoned duplex in North Richmond

No one was hurt when a fire destroyed the roof of an abandoned, boarded-up duplex on 2nd Street in North Richmond on Monday, according to Bay City News, which interviewed a county fire captain.

The fire was reported at 6:15 a.m. at the building at 1621 2nd St. and burned the attic and entire roof, Capt. George Laing of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.

Laing said damage estimates were under $50,000, he said.

“If you see people entering or loitering around vacant structures, be sure to call the authorities,” Laing said.
