Camp Quest remains Richmond destination after five decades

Camp Quest still a Richmond destination after more than 50 years

We popped by Camp Quest at 12605 San Pablo Ave. the other day for a bit of a history lesson.

After all, the trucks and RVs accessories shop has been at the same spot since 1964, owner Joseph Petkovich said.

“My Dad started the business in 1958 as a used car lot on 23rd Street,” Petkovich told the Richmond Standard. “From there he moved here to San Pablo Avenue in 1964 and retired in 1977. Since 1977, we have been running a truck equipment business along with RVs, because my dad in 1964 started Chuck’s Camper Sales, which a lot of the old Richmond guys would recall. And then we subsequently changed the name to Camp Quest when we kind of eased out of the big motor homes and trailers and RVs.”

Camp Quest continues to serve a loyal, community-oriented customer base.

“We’re suppliers of after-market truck equipment, from covers, camper shells to any type of accessory that a truck may need, whether it’s bed protection, overloads, step-bars. Anything outfitting a truck,” Petkovich said.

Petkovich said being able to develop relationships with customers over long periods of time has been one of the more enjoyable parts of operating the long-running business.

He also loves patronizing other local businesses. In the morning, he recommends popping into Catahoula Coffee Co. (12472 San Pablo Ave.) for coffee and pastries, or for breakfast dining at Angel’s Restaurant (12469 San Pablo Ave.).
