Richmond police chief plays audio of local shooting

During a presentation on crime prevention strategies at Richmond City Council Tuesday, Richmond police Chief Allwyn Brown played a chilling audio recording of a shooting that occurred in the city.

Brown was called upon by Councilmember Jovanka Beckles to present police strategies on dealing with an uptick in gun violence in the city, including an update on RPD’s partnerships with community groups and organizations.

During the presentation, Brown explained the function of ShotSpotter technology, which uses acoustic sensors in devices mounted citywide to pinpoint where gunshots happen when they occur.
