Richmond Farmers Market offers taste of the unexpected

By Zach Chouteau

In our latest Rich Life segment, we dropped by the Richmond Farmers Market last week and was reminded of just what makes the offbeat offering a local treasure.

You’ll find a wealth of ridiculously cheap fruits and veggies, ranging from peaches and eggplants to exotic Asian greens. And shoppers will also be lured by decadent delights like a kettle corn booth and a deep-fried turkey stand.

Another surprise is the presence of non-food items like cheap electronics and funky fashion, all of it going at rock-bottom prices. You can explore the market in less than half-an-hour.

The Richmond Farmers Market is located in the parking lot at 24th Street and Barrett Avenue, and is open Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  1. This is a hidden gem in Richmond California. Every Friday you can find the freshest most inexpensive produce in the East Bay. This market has been around for over 30 years. I found an heirloom cantaloupe from one of the vendors last week that was probably the best melon I have ever had.
