In his distinctive suits and fedora, Rick Starr sang off key into an unplugged microphone. Even so, he made a name for himself during the 1980s and 1990s by belting out Big Band-era hits on UC Berkeley’s Sproul Plaza, according to the Bold Italic and other reports.
Next month, he’ll bring his talents to San Pablo.
Starr is scheduled to perform at a free event on Tuesday, March 17, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the San Pablo Library, 13751 San Pablo Ave.
In 1992, Starr made news headlines after he was charged with disturbing the peace for singing loudly enough to bother a campus worker. The case was dismissed by a judge, according to an Associated Press article at the time. While he no longer performs at the university, a Facebook appreciation page for him remains active.
