Diners at El Sol Mexican Restaurant in Point Richmond are being treated to both food and an art exhibition.
Through Feb. 5, Arts of Point Richmond is presenting paintings by Shelby Sampson at the restaurant at 101 Park Place.
According to a statement by the artist:
“Inspiration for these acrylic paintings grew out of several years commuting between the Bay Area and Sacramento. I was struck by the great variety of ways the natural landscape – especially the beautiful undulating hills – had been decorated and manipulated by human occupation over the years. I was also aware that many people bemoaned the intrusion of power lines or microwave relay towers into the “pristine” natural landscape. I have always found a beauty in these commanding structures of modern technology, and began photographing them, and creating sketches from the photos, in 1999. The goal: to reveal the beauty of California’s built landscape. Over the years my subject has expanded from ‘things on hills’ to whatever view of the California landscape catches my eye.”
