Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why features moped ride through Point Richmond

One of the opening scenes of the second season for 13 Reasons Why was filmed in Point Richmond.

We are well aware that 13 Reasons Why was filmed in various Bay Area locations, since representatives of the Netflix series have routinely asked the Richmond Standard to post about casting calls prior to filming.

Still, it’s always cool to see local sites appear on popular TV shows, and we were reminded of that today when the NIAD Art Center posted on Facebook about noticing the opening seasons to Season 2 were quite obviously filmed in Point Richmond.

Naturally, we “stopped the presses” and went sleuthing for evidence of this — an excuse to watch TV during the workday.

Just 2 minutes into the first episode of the new season, we saw some of the main characters ride a moped — recklessly, we should say — through various parts of Point Richmond’s historic square and the Ferry Point tunnel. At one point, the moped zips past the Hotel Mac and rides straight through the pedestrian walkway next to the El Sol Mexican Restaurant.

We captured some frames from the scene below.

Meanwhile, the equally inquisitive folks at the NIAD Art Center shared a helpful link to, which provides a list of filming locations for Season 2.

“The filming of the original 13 episodes took six months and was mainly based in the towns of San Rafael, Vallejo and Sebastopol,” the site states. But filming also took place in other areas, including at the Contra Costa County Finance Building in Martinez.
