The new community farm in North Richmond is set to host its 1st Annual Festival of Flowers this Mother’s Day weekend, a free family event.

The event at North Richmond Farm, 323 Brookside Dr., starts at 11 a.m. Saturday with a brunch buffet and has activities through 2 p.m. including putting together flower bouquets, Mother’s Day cards, flower crown-making, face-painting, photo booth and more.

Live entertainment during the event will include Voices of Reason & Son De La Tierre from the East Bay Center for Performing Arts.

Also included is a special Mother’s Day raffle with prizes such as a free dinner at Hotel Mac, tickets to the Oakland Symphony, tickets to the Museum of the African Diaspora, a professional Mother’s Day bouquet from Park Florists, a professional massage, mani-pedi and gift baskets from Lush and the Body Shop.

All of this won’t just celebrate a refreshing new farm in North Richmond — but also moms.

“By raising our kids with knowledge and protecting our environment our mothers make a change by planting healthy seeds and helping to create a healthy environment,” North Richmond resident Faanape Mikaio said in a statement.

Every mom gets one raffle ticket upon entry, with more available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit Urban Tilth, the nonprofit that led the construction of the new farm and is leading its ongoing maintenance and community garden programs.

Founded in 2005, Urban Tilth hires and trains local residents to maintain farms that invite a more sustainable, healthy, and just food system in West Contra Costa County. The nonprofit uses its seven school and community gardens and small urban farms to teach and employ community members to grow, distribute, cook, and consume thousands of pounds of local produce each year.
