Hundreds of local residents celebrated at the 8th Annual Spirit & Soul Festival and Fundraiser in Richmond on Saturday, thus contributing to the effort to revitalize the city’s downtown corridor.
The festival brought an afternoon of live music, food, shopping and useful local resources to Macdonald Avenue from Harbour Way to 13th Street.
While the event was free, proceeds from vendor booths, beverage sales and drawings went to the Richmond Main Street Street Initiative‘s (RMSI) efforts to return the area near the Richmond BART Station into a vibrant community center.
There were several live performances, including spoken word on the new youth stage and music from BeaufunK with Michael Jeffries and rock and roll group PUSH featuring Dan Ashley, the ABC7 News anchor. The entertainment joined a number of fun activities such as jump roping, playing chess on a massive board and enjoying delicious local soul food and wine. Check out photos from the event, some of which were provided by RMSI.
The festival was sponsored by Chevron, City of Richmond, Mechanics Bank, Sims Metal Management, AC Transit, The California Endowment, Republic Services, Richmond Community Foundation, SparkPoint Contra Costa, and DP Security.
