Leondrea Thomas, otherwise known as fast-rhyming rapper “Le’Le,” has been blowing up recently, not only on stages statewide but also on the set of The Marshawn Lynch Story.
The multifaceted 15-year-old performer, who split her time between Richmond and Hayward while growing up, recently wrapped up filming for her role in the Lynch biopic, which is set for release this fall. She plays Lynch’s middle-school girlfriend in the film.
Despite earning the role, Le’Le’s talent at the microphone could very well be what launches her career. Particularly her mature lyrics, which rise above the bravado of her teenage peers and search for solutions rather than just reflections of life in poverty-stricken communities.
For this reason, her label, Defacto Music Group, encourages Le’Le to continue writing. Her first single, Bay Area Living, expresses a focus on family as a remedy for violence, saying she prefers to “kill with kindness.”
“Le’Le’s music is vicariously influenced by the culture of the city of Richmond,” said Ylan Wills, Le’Le’s stylist. “Her family was raised in Richmond, and many of Le’Le’s socio-influences have developed from that familial connection.”
While Richmond’s violent past influenced Bay Area Living, the city’s cultural diversity gave Le’Le the maturity to see beyond that negative reputation, her mother Stephanie Aldridge added.
But Le’Le has always been an old soul. She gravitated toward music, dancing, and singing at a very early age and loved to play dress up in her mother and grandmother’s jewelry and clothes. She would imagine that she was on stage performing for millions of people, according to her mother.
At 7 years old, she was a dancer for Bay Area singer Goapele. Noticing her talent, Aldridge supported her daughter’s dream by entering her in talent shows throughout the Bay Area.
Less than a month before her 16th birthday, Le’Le is only beginning to see her hard work pay off. Aside from her appearance in the Lynch film, the teenager is promoting her latest music project, Inferno, which she has performed recently on stages in Sacramento and Richmond.
