The Healthcare Movie, a documentary narrated by actor Kiefer Sutherland, will be screened at The Magick Lantern in Point Richmond on Feb. 15, Councilman Tom Butt said in his email newsletter Saturday.
The 65-minute-long film, which compares the Canadian and American healthcare systems during the last 50 years, will start at 2 p.m. and is free for all. The screening is presented by the Contra Costa County chapter of the nonprofit group Health Care For All, which is promoting a controversial healthcare system in California that is paid for solely by the government.
Interestingly, Sutherland is reportedly the grandson of Tommy Douglas, the founder of Medicare in Canada.
