The community is mourning the loss of a 20-year-old San Pablo man and former star quarterback at El Cerrito High, who was found murdered at a campground in Oroville over the weekend, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, Sheriff’s Office responded to a report about an injured person at the Bidwell Marina Campground and found Tyler Dickson inside a tent. Medical personnel determined he was deceased, and detectives subsequently gathered evidence and information that indicated he had been murdered, the Sheriff’s Office said. Further details about the murder case were not provided and the investigation was ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Coach Williams, who is also Dickson’s Godfather, said he’s at a loss for how this could have happened to him.
Will Bryant, athletic director of the Richmond Steelers Youth Football and Cheer program, mourned his death on Facebook, saying he’d known Dickson for 11 years. Bryant shared a story about how a younger Dickson asked to play quarterback when he looked like a lineman, “but once you threw that ball the rest was history.” Bryant said he watched Dickson grow up to be “a very confident young man.”
Anyone with information about the murder case is encouraged to call BCSO detectives at 530-538-7671.
