The nonprofit 1 Hundred Years (1HY) is hosting a nonpartisan candidate forum on April 16 to help Richmond residents prepare for the June primary election.
The event will take place at CoBiz Richmond from 6-8 p.m. All candidates running for mayor and City Council have been invited to participate.
The forum focuses on the most important issues facing the city, including public safety, the local economy, and the environment. Rodney “Alamo” Brown will emcee the event, while 1HY co-founders Fahim Reese and Patrick Scott will serve as moderators. Reese noted that the forum is designed to give the community a chance to have real conversations with their potential leaders.
Residents have a direct role in the discussion because the moderators will use questions submitted by the public. Community members can send in their questions online or through email until April 10.
“Richmond is at a pivotal moment, and residents deserve a real conversation with the people who want to lead this city,” said Fahim Reese, co-founder of 1 Hundred Years. “This forum is about community — making sure every voice is heard, and every candidate is accountable to the people they seek to serve.”
Added cofounder Scott, “We believe civic engagement starts with access — access to candidates, access to information, and access to community.”
The forum is free and open to the public at 1503 Macdonald Ave. Those interested in attending should RSVP through this Eventbrite link. 1HY is a local group dedicated to community empowerment and making sure more voices are heard in Richmond’s government.
