Neighbors, families, and alumni are invited to celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony for the Stege Elementary School rebuild, set to take place in the cul-de-sac at 4949 Cypress Ave. on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m.
The long-awaited project replaces aging structures with a state-of-the-art campus designed around a community-selected “Celestial: Galaxy” theme. The modern layout preserves a historic Oak tree as a centerpiece and features separate grade-level wings, flexible “Commons” spaces, and specialty labs. Following the 2025 demolition, construction has shifted to grading and utilities, making way for a site that prioritizes outdoor learning, tiered seating, and colorful athletic courts.
Construction of the new classroom wings, multi-purpose building, and specialty labs is scheduled to begin this spring. The goal is for an August 2027 move-in date. While construction goes on, Stege students are temporarily relocated to DeJean Middle School.
Community members who want to follow the progress can sign up for monthly email updates or ask specific questions by contacting the facilities team at askfacilities@wccusd.net.
The district is also encouraging residents to apply for the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee to help monitor how bond funds are spent on projects like this one.
