The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has secured a $323,500 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to launch a specialized DUI prosecution team. The new unit, composed of dedicated prosecutors and investigators, will focus exclusively on cases involving alcohol and drug-impaired driving through September 2026. This is the first year the office has received this specific funding for a concentrated DUI program.

With these funds, the DA’s office is forming a team to manage DUI cases more closely from arrest to sentencing. The group will also train other legal professionals and work directly with local police to ensure the best methods are used to handle these cases.

District Attorney Diana Becton stated the grant will help the office hold impaired drivers accountable and improve road safety. Stephanie Dougherty, director of the Office of Traffic Safety, added that the goal is to build a safer driving culture through these focused prosecutions and law enforcement partnerships.
