Former East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) General Manager Sabrina Landreth announced she is seeking legal counsel and weighing possible legal action following her recent departure from the district.
Landreth, who led the nation’s largest regional park system for nearly five years and was the first woman to serve as its general manager, said she was “constructively terminated” by the EBRPD Board of Directors. According to Landreth, the Board demanded that she take actions she believed would violate open government and personnel laws and damage her professional integrity.
“I could not perform my job under a Board of Directors which was not exercising appropriate governance and operates without adequate checks and balances,” Landreth said in a statement. “The Board was demanding that I compromise my integrity and values. I would not do that.”
Her contract, renewed in 2024 for another five years, was cut short this week. Landreth expressed disappointment that she could not complete several projects she had initiated but said she remains proud of her accomplishments during her tenure.
Before joining EBRPD, Landreth served as Oakland’s city administrator from 2015 to 2020 and as city manager of Emeryville. She also worked in the California State Assembly and serves on the UC Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy Board of Advisors.
EBRPD has not yet issued a public response to Landreth’s statements.
