Pinole is inviting residents to a town-hall meeting as it ramps up efforts to address a roughly $60 million backlog in pavement repairs.

The session is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Pinole Senior Center.

The meeting offers a chance for residents to learn about the city’s two-pronged strategy for repairing and maintaining its road network. First, a Road Rehabilitation Plan is under development to target major thoroughfares including San Pablo Avenue and Pinole Valley Road. These roads require significant upgrades beyond routine fixes.

Then there’s a separate Road Maintenance Plan, which lays out a five-year schedule for tasks like pothole repair, sign and pavement-marking updates and other upkeep.

In the meantime, Pinole’s public-works crew is already addressing urgent issues, performing around 30 pothole repairs each month and maintaining safety improvements while awaiting major funding.

Funding is beginning to be secured via local revenue sources including Measure J, Measure S and state Gas-Tax allocations. These resources will underpin larger repair undertakings once the plans are complete.

City officials emphasize that although full-scale construction will begin later once funding is identified, much of the value lies in being prepared now. For more information and to review draft plans, visit the city’s road-repair webpage
