Contra Costa County ceremony to honor 80th anniversary of WWII

Contra Costa County to mark 80th anniversary of WWII with ceremony

Contra Costa County will mark the 80th anniversary of World War II with its Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Board Chambers, 1025 Escobar Street.

The County will salute the Tuskegee Airmen — flying into danger both overseas and in a segregated America. Rosie the Riveters will be honored for keeping America’s industrial wheels turning. We’ll also recognize the Code Talkers, Native American servicemen whose native tongues became America’s most secure wartime communications.

Locally, Contra Costa will honor “Papa Jake” Larson, a D-Day veteran turned storyteller and social-media figure, whose life embodied how countless personal sacrifices built a collective victory.

Can’t make it in person? Watch live on Comcast 27, AT&T U-Verse 99, Astound 32 & 1027, or stream it on Contra Costa TV.
