The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) officially joined the ALERTCalifornia wildfire camera network, aimed at early wildfire detection and monitoring.

By joining the network, EBRPD gains control over the existing ALERTCalifornia cameras within its jurisdiction and plans to assess additional sites for new camera installations. Managed by UC San Diego, ALERTCalifornia operates over 1,100 pan-tilt-zoom cameras across the state.

The cameras provide 24-hour surveillance of fire-prone areas, utilizing artificial intelligence to detect smoke and potential fire outbreaks. When the AI identifies anomalies, alerts are dispatched to emergency command centers and firefighting units, facilitating rapid response, according to ALERTCalifornia.

Beyond wildfire detection, the system also assists in monitoring other natural disasters, including extreme weather events, landslides and earthquakes. The public can access live camera feeds and additional information at alertcalifornia.org.
