“Dan has committed a quarter of a century to this community and has been part of its transformation, from the most violent city per capita in the nation to where we are today,” Chief Bubar said. “His career is an example of what is possible and what we strive to achieve: taking community members who grow up here, care about this community, and commit their career to making it better. I am better because I have worked with Dan Wiegers, and this organization and city will forever be indebted to him.”
“Today is only the second time in 50 years that I’m leaving San Pablo, but the first time I won’t be a resident or employee here,” Wiegers said at his retirement ceremony.
He expressed gratitude to both current and past city councils for their support of the police department, and credited two key leaders for shaping his career: former City Manager Matt Rodriguez, who he called “by far the best city manager I’ve ever worked for,” and former Police Chief Ron Raman, who he said “changed the department forever” and left it in capable hands with Chief Bubar.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege serving my community for the past 26 years,” Wiegers said. “I thank you all.”
