The Center for Elders’ Independence (CEI) will host a Grand Opening Celebration and Community Expo for its new PACE West County Center in El Sobrante on Friday, Aug. 1, from 3-6 p.m. at 3645 San Pablo Dam Road.

The event invites the public and media to explore the 19,000‑square-foot facility (located on the former Thrift Town site), tour its state‑of‑the‑art spaces, meet CEI’s healthcare team, and engage with a variety of senior-focused service providers from across the West Contra Costa region.

The El Sobrante center is one of three PACE centers opening this summer, with the other two opening in Livermore and Oakland. PACE (Program of All‑Inclusive Care for the Elderly) aims to deliver a comprehensive suite of services, including primary medical and specialty care, nutrition, physical and occupational therapy, behavioral health support, transportation, meals, and social programming. These services are offered through amenities such as medical exam rooms, a rehabilitation gym, a mock apartment for occupational therapy, computer lab, library, and an outdoor patio. All are designed to support seniors in maintaining independence, dignity, and a high quality of life under one roof.

CEI’s summer expansion brings its total reach to nearly triple in service capacity and extends community‑based care to over 3,200 seniors in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

“We are thrilled to bring our mission to more seniors across the East Bay,” CEO Maria Zamora said in a statement. “These new PACE centers will provide life-changing care that allows older adults to live safely and independently in their homes, surrounded by community and supported by an expert team. Our mission is to empower seniors to live fulfilling lives on their own terms.”

Zamora is scheduled to attend the grand opening event along with representatives from Congressman John Garamendi’s office, Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia, Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez, Pinole Mayor Cameron Sasai and El Cerrito Vice Mayor Gabriel Quinto.
