2nd Annual Ethnic Studies Summit coming to Contra Costa College

The 2nd Annual Ethnic Studies Summit will take place at Contra Costa College on Friday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The summit, themed “Reviving Resistance — Solidarity and Resurgence,” is a free gathering dedicated to uplifting the role of Ethnic Studies in education, advocacy and liberation.

This summit is an opportunity for community members, students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators to come together in solidarity, share knowledge, and engage in action-driven conversations that center cultural empowerment, social justice, and educational equity,” organizers said.

Dr. Cesar Cruz, a 23-year educator who co-founded the independent school, Making Changes, will serve as the keynote speaker. Cruz led the Homies Empowerment Program for gang-impacted youth in Oakland.

A group of educators from local colleges will provide workshops on Native American and Indigenous Studies, Africana Studies, Pacific Islander Studies, and student-focused artwork.

The day will close out with Jahi, a globally recognized Hip-Hop artist, educator, and cultural strategist, who uses music and storytelling to uplift and empower communities. His work bridges education and activism.

A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Click here to register online.
