The City of Richmond is hosting a series of Black History Month events, including its Black History Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The community is invited at 11 a.m. Saturday to the Main Branch Library at 325 Civic Center Plaza for a powerful performance of “Jazz & Freedom Songs” with Kalimba King.

Afterward at 1 p.m., the City of Richmond’s Black History Celebration will begin at the nearby Richmond Memorial Auditorium. The celebration will feature performances, speakers and community engagement.

Then at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, the Main Library will host a talk by author John William Templeton — Memphis to Mandela — which centers on Bill Lucy’s significant impact on both the civil rights and labor movements.
