The City of Richmond is inviting residents to a community meeting to learn more about the Carlson Crosstown Project Phase II, which will complete construction of bicycle lanes, cameras, asphalt paving, signing, striping and street lighting along Carlson Boulevard from Bayview to Tehama avenues.
The meeting will take place Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Richmond Recreation Complex, 3230 Macdonald Ave.
According to the city’s dedicated web page for the project, a Class IV bike lane will be installed from Broadway to Bayview and a Class II bike lane will installed from Bayview to Tehama. The city said the project will enhance safety and improve traffic flow on Carlson.
“The new bikeway will connect existing bike lanes on Carlson Boulevard at San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito north to Broadway, near Richmond Civic Center,” the city says.
The city hopes to launch construction on the $4.1 million effort in November and complete the project by September 2026. The project website notes a “budgetary shortfalls” in the project including $2.6 million in funding needed for street lighting.
A separate project involving Carlson that is currently in planning is the Bayview to BART effort. The project will aim to create a safe and comfortable walking and biking route connecting the Del Norte BART Station to the Bay Trail. Construction on that project is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027 and take one year to complete.
“It will entail Class II bike lanes on Potrero Ave as well as build Class IV protected bike lanes on the Bayview Ave. overpass over I-580, curb ramps, sidewalk repairs, and pavement rehabilitation,” the city states. “Final limits are in active discussion with Caltrans.”
