The City of El Cerrito is launching a new automated program that aims to make it faster and less expensive to get a permit to install home rooftop solar systems.
SolarAPP+ allows contractors to upload a solar system’s specifications and have that information automatically reviewed for code compliance. For code compliant projects, instant approval can be received for permits, according to the city.
Systems in other jurisdictions have reportedly saved customers an estimated average of 12 business days from the time of project submission to the final inspection.
“Our new automated solar permitting tool will make it even easier for residents and
businesses to install solar and energy storage systems, reducing turnaround times,
and improving the services we provide to the community,” said City of El Cerrito Community Development Director Melanie Mintz.
