Contra Costa College (CCC) is inducting an inaugural class of 100 athletes, coaches and contributors into the new Contra Costa College Athletics Hall of Fame, underscoring the rich legacy of its athletics program.

The first Hall of Fame class spans the gamut from former student-athletes to coaches to community members who have shown excellence in their respective sports and brought honor to the college via their achievements.

An induction ceremony will occur Friday, Nov. 8 at Contra Costa College’s newly renovated Gymnasium, and will include the honorees, their loved ones and other community members to celebrate this notable milestone. To attend, RSVP here.

The current inductees include the likes of CCC alum Benny Barnes, who became an NFL cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, competing in Super Bowls XII and XIII; Eddie Hart, who won Olympic gold in the Track and Field 4×100 meter relay at the 1972 Munich Olympics; and Pumpsie Green, the first African American baseball player for the Boston Red Sox.

The trio of athletes join 97 fellow inductees in representing the best of Contra Costa College’s athletic tradition; check out the full list below. The college is already getting to work selecting former student-athletes for the second round of inductions.

Kyle Alvarado, athletic director at Contra Costa College, said that the college is thrilled to induct such an incredible group of individuals into its Athletics Hall of Fame. “This is a momentous occasion for our college, as we honor the legacy of those who have not only excelled in athletics, but also contributed to the spirit and community of CCC.”
