Hercules police Chief Joseph Vasquez posted a heartwarming story on Facebook today about a couple of police officers who stepped up to help an elderly woman who fell and destroyed her birthday cake.
As Chief Vasquez was driving to the police department, he noticed a young man assisting an elderly woman who had fallen due to exhaustion from carrying two grocery bags. One of her bags included her birthday cake.
Officers Demi Gonis and Jade Lawson responded to the scene and accompanied the woman until she was medically cleared, said the chief. Then they drove her home. Along the way, the officers noticed the lady’s birthday cake was ruined from her falling on it. They collectively decided to purchase her a new cake with their own money and deliver it to the birthday girl’s home.
“Job well done, ladies,” said the chief. “Above and beyond the call of duty. Your Hercules Police Officers serving their community with honor.”
