A homeless man was arrested on charges that he murdered a woman before setting her on fire in San Pablo on Tuesday, July 2.
San Pablo police and Con Fire responded at about 1:23 a.m. to a fire along San Pablo Creek, near the 1900 block of Road 20. The body of a person identified only as a 40-year-old homeless woman was found severely burned in the area. An autopsy revealed she also suffered blunt force trauma to her head, police said.
William S. Ramirez, 35, was identified in an investigation as a person of interest. He was taken into custody after San Pablo police officer served a search warrant in the 1800 block of 23rd Street. Police said evidence was recovered linking Ramirez to the murder.
Ramirez remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility pending the filing of charges from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
