Congressman John Garamendi secured $13.5 million in federal funding earlier this month which will benefit several local projects.
In total, 13 projects across California’s 8th Congressional District will receive funding from a package that aims to deliver affordable housing, healthy food access, public transit improvements and more walkable neighborhoods to local communities, according to Garamendi’s office.
Projects funded include:
- the Giant Road Apartment Rehabilitation Project in San Pablo, which will receive $1.67 million to rehabilitate the 86-unit affordable housing complex.
- the Hercules Hub Project, which will receive $850,000 for its final design phases. The project features 1,400 housing units and 340,000 square feet of commercial space.
- the San Pablo Avenue Bridge Replacement/Complete Streets Project, which will get $850,000 to complete non-bridge aspects needed for the bridge replacement project.
- the proposed Heritage Point grocery store in North Richmond, which will receive $500,000.
- the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, which will use $963,000 to hire additional staff who will work to protect victims from violent offenders.
Garamendi said all 13 projects will “make our community an even better place to live for working families and all residents.”
This week, Hercules City Manager Dante Hall called the new federal funds for The Hub “exciting news for us.”
“We are excited to be able to move forward and deliver this great project, which will connect our residents and employers with rail, bus and ferry options,” he said.
