The San Pablo Police Department is advising residents against using their garbage bins to save parking spots in front of their homes. Police will be out providing education and outreach where it is occurring, the city said.

The parking strategy, which is certainly not unique to San Pablo, is illegal in the city per municipal code, the Police Department said this week on social media.

“No garbage and recycling receptacles shall be maintained, permitted, or allowed to remain at a collection point for more than 24 hours before pick up or more than 24 hours after the scheduled pickup,” the city said.

The city says residents can report potential violations by downloading the Reach San Pablo app from the iTunes App Store or Google Play.
