Richmond firefighters within 20 minutes extinguished a blaze that broke out at a large homeless encampment in the area of Castro Street and the Richmond Parkway overpass Tuesday night.

Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union representing RFD fire personnel, posted an image and description of the incident.

At the scene, firefighters saw multiple RVs, a travel trailer, large piles of debris and a vehicle on fire within the encampment.

“Crews worked quickly to temporarily evacuate encampment residents until the flames could be controlled,” Local 188 reported.
