After defeating Pinole Valley 61-51 at home on Thursday, the inspiring Kennedy High girls basketball team capped a dream season by topping Vallejo High 66-23 to win the Tri-County Athletic League tournament title on Saturday at St. Mary's. The Eagles dominated their final game from start to finish, jumping to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. It's a testament to a remarkable season in which Head Coach George Jackson has led a team that played with a short roster all season, at one point winning games with just five players. Senior Ukiah Ware led Saturday with 28 points and 8 rebounds, hitting 71-percent of her shots, according to stats provided on MaxPreps.com. Junior Ana Daniels added 19 points, eight steals and five assists, Jermila McElroy had nine points and five steals, Hadassah Williams had five points and three rebounds and Ashanti Stricklen had five points, three assists and a team leading 12 rebounds. The team, which is next headed to the North Coast Section playoffs, is led by Jackson Jr. and also Assistant Coaches Tamara Denise Johnson and Shunise Criswell.
