The Richmond Fire Department responded to a grass fire Tuesday afternoon on the 2700 block of Barnard Street according to a Department spokesman.
Residents reported the fire at 2:24 p.m., according to Richmond Fire Department Capt. Rico Rincon. When fire crews arrived minutes later, the blaze was determined to be significant enough for evacuations to be ordered as a safety precaution.
A handful of residents were forced to briefly leave their residences when the large grassy field in back of their homes became ablaze. The fire was successful extinguished by 3:28 pm.
Rincon said no injuries or significant property damage were reported and investigators were trying to determine the source of the fire.
