“This is exactly what West County deserves.”
Those were the words from Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia at the grand opening celebration today for the Contra Costa County Women, Infants & Children (WIC) in San Pablo.
The new 7,500 square-foot West County, which replaced the aging WIC facility in Richmond, is located at 501 Gateway Ave., right behind the parking lot of the West Contra Costa Health Center.
“This location provides nutritional support for nearly 6,000 individuals and thousands of families who come here to get help, to be able to be more successful raising their family,” Gioia said.
WIC is a federally-funded supplement nutrition program that provides services and resources for pregnant and post-partum women, infants and children up to 5 have a healthy life-style. Services include nutrition education, breast-feeding support, checks for healthy foods, and referrals to other resources throughout the county.
The new WIC office will not only enhance the experience of WIC participants, it will enhance the work environment for staff.
Guest speakers at today’s event included Supervisor Gioia, San Pablo Mayor Genoveva Calloway, Contra Costa Public Health Director Dan Peddycord & WIC Director Raz Moghbel.
