The staff at sfgate.com put together a list of the most buzz-worthy food items being ordered in cities throughout the Bay Area, and items from eateries in Richmond, El Cerrito and Hercules earned mention.
In Richmond, the Pho dish at Huong Tra, located in a strip mall on San Pablo Avenue near Barrett Avenue, earned a spot on the list.
“For a foggy, soupy Bay Area day, a big bowl of pho appeals like nothing else,” according to the news website. “Situated in a strip mall, Huong Tra’s modest exterior houses some of Richmond’s favorite Vietnamese food. The extensive menu has banh mi, noodle dishes and rice plates, but the large portions of pho are most popular on Yelp. The price is also right: Most pho orders are about $8.”
In El Cerrito, El Mono received mention for its lomo satlado.
“Locals pack this Peruvian place for their ceviche and lomo saltado, a stir-fry of beef, french fries and vegetables served alongside garlic rice,” according to sfgate.com. “If you want to expand your horizons, their extensive menu also features plenty of lesser-known Peruvian dishes (and some vegetarian options too).”
And in Hercules, the caramel cake at Sunflower Bakery made the sfgate list.
“Families that grew up in Hercules and the East Bay know this tiny Filipino bakery and its coveted caramel cake, a staple of many weekend parties and gatherings,” the publication stated. “The light spongy cake comes in various sizes, but the signature caramel icing creates a nice touch of sweetness that beats out other types of frosting.”
To compile its list, sfgate staff polled friends, family and coworkers and examined Yelp reviews. Check out the feature here.
