SS Red Oak Victory to host Shipyard Swing concert this weekend

Richmond's WWII past remembered in beautiful Veteran's Day ceremony
Veteran's Day on Tuesday doubled as the 70th anniversary of the launch of the SS Red Oak Victory in Richmond.

Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers will be swingin’ on the 1944 ship Red Oak Victory this Saturday.

The community is invited to enjoy a full dinner and dancing just like they did in classic 1940s supper clubs. Smith and her band are one of the hottest classic swing acts in the country.

Along with swinging the night away, you can visit the bridge, the chartroom, the Captain’s quarters, and look down into the engine room.  You can even have the radio operator send a message to your friends and family using the ship’s original Morse code-only radio.

Your $30 ticket includes admission to the ship, dancing, and, of course, the live show. Or, purchase a Premium Ticket for $70 and enjoy all of that plus a complete sit-down gourmet dinner and a free drink (beer or wine).

If you bring your classic (pre-1970) car or a military vehicle, you and one guest can attend the dance and have dinner for only $35 each and park your pride-and-joy right next to the ship for all to see.
