Best Buy grant to fund laptops, software for Richmond library student program

The Richmond Public Library has received a $6,410 grant from the Best Buy Foundation to purchase laptops, software and trainers for a web development program serving high school students.

The grant will fund the 4-week “Master Your Domain” program, which includes web design workshops that will provide marketable skills to local students who may be interested in pursuing careers in the field.

Aside from funding computer equipment, the grant will provide stipends to local college students who will serve as trainers in the program. The high school students who complete the program will also have an opportunity to serve as trainers in the program.

Tonight, the Richmond City Council is set to approve and allocate the Best Buy grant award during a consent calendar vote.
