A new, hip co-working space is coming to Richmond’s Hilltop area — and this one is particularly innovative.
Making Waves Foundation, a Richmond-based education nonprofit that operates a successful local charter school, is transforming 13,000 square feet of office space at 3043 Research Drive into a co-working space specifically for nonprofits and the people who support them.
The new venture, called “The Place at Research Drive,” will feature between 15 and 19 private offices as well as flexible coworking spaces for people who simply need a comfortable place to use WiFi and to network and collaborate with industry professionals, said Randolph Belle, who provided the Richmond Standard with a tour of the under-construction facility last week.
The rates will be affordable, as well — $500 monthly for a 3-person, private office, with $100 for every additional person in the office. The cost for individuals wanting to use the flexible co-working space is $150 per month. Renting meeting rooms and conference space ranges from $25 to $100 per hour.
Making Waves Foundation “wanted to re-purpose this space as a coworking space for community service organizations,” Belle said. “They wanted to broaden the scope of the kinds of tenants they would be looking for. So you will have some education organizations but primarily there will be individuals and organizations doing community services. They might not all be nonprofits. There will be some businesses and consultants that work with nonprofit organizations.”

Also, those interested in renting offices or checking out the space can join a tour of the facility on Tuesday at noon.
