Man killed in Richmond shooting Monday

A 29-year-old man was fatally shot in the area of S. 47th Street and Carlson Boulevard on Monday morning, police said.

Officers responded to calls about a shooting about 10:53 a.m. and found the victim seated behind the wheel of a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The victim has been identified Javonte Prothro of Hercules.

“At this time, there is no suspect information nor has a motive been determined, as investigators continue to investigate this homicide,” police spokesman Lt. Andre Hill said.

The shooting was the latest in a string of recent gun violence in Richmond. On Friday night, a teenager was killed in a shooting in the Hilltop area. Earlier that day, a shooting injured two people, including a man who was targeted as well as a 16-month-old child who was struck by a stray bullet while in his mother’s arms.

On Aug. 31, Maxim Biswas, 30, was fatally shot at the intersection of Marina Way South and Wright Avenue in Richmond. And in the two days leading up to that homicide, there were three separate shooting incidents in Richmond: One near Kennedy High that cut short a Richmond Steelers event, although no one was injured; another later that evening near Nevin Avenue near 24th that injured a 27-year-old man; and a shooting that injured a man on 8th Street and Lincoln Avenue and led to a major police chase with four arrests.

Other recent incidents of gunfire have occurred in neighboring areas. On Monday of last week, two people were shot and injured in the 600 block of El Centro Road in El Sobrante. And two weeks ago, a 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old pregnant woman in San Pablo.

Anyone with information about the most recent shooting is asked to call RPD Homicide Detective F. Rivera at 510-620-6613.
