Richmond College Prep Schools principal nominated for national LifeChanger award

Allie Welch, resident principal at the top performing Richmond College Prep Schools, has been nominated for the 2015-2016 LifeChanger of the Year award, which recognizes the nation’s best K-12 public and private school educators and employees.

Of the hundreds of nominations submitted to the LifeChanger of the Year program, which is sponsored by National Life Group Foundation, 16 winners will be chosen by a selection committee. Cash rewards are split between each winner and their school. The grand prize is $10,000. Winners will be announced in spring 2016.

Welch was nominated for the award by Richmond College Prep CEO Peppina Liano and school employee Connie Anderson. In a school statement, the principal was praised for her work ethic, leadership, dedication and enthusiasm. She began her career as a second grade teacher at Richmond College Prep and succeeded in helping her students excel in English and math.

“Welch deeply understands the need to eliminate the inequalities of education, especially when many of the students come from low-income families,” the school statement said. “As a result, she has taken the enormous responsibility of creating policies that support and value the students, families and staff.”

Liano called Welch “remarkable, smart, hard-working” and a “refined professional.”

“While her leadership skills are impressive, one of her greatest strengths is her wonderful demeanor,” Anderson said in the statement. “Welch exudes strength, kindness, and a shares a solid vision of high achievement and character traits for students.”

Welch and Richmond College Prep can also receive a boost from members of the community in this awards process. In addition to the main award, this year a new prize called the Spirit Award will be given to the nominee with those most support from the community members including via social media posts and the nominee’s profile page.
