Salesian basketball stars sign letters of intent to play at Division 1 colleges

Salesian seniors Minyon Moore and Jordan Hobson have signed letters of intent to play for NCAA Division 1 basketball teams, the school announced Friday.

Minyon Moore is committed to play for the University of Southern California, while Jordan Hobson is set to play for St. Mary’s College of Moraga following their senior seasons with the Pride.

Last season, Moore, a 5’ 9” point guard, averaged 13.8 points, 6.8 assists, 5.4 steals and 4.6 rebounds per game. Hobson, a 5’ 11” forward, chipped in about 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 points per game, according to

The pair led the Pride, one of the state’s best teams, to a 28-4 record last year that included an NCS Division IV title and trip to the CIF State Girls Basketball Championships.

The team certainly considers itself lucky to have Moore and Hobson back for one more season. In fact,’s preseason rankings has Salesian as the top team in the NCS. Writer Mitch Stephens remarked that Moore has “improved even more during the offseason” and that the addition of freshman 6-foor-3 post Angel Jackson will make the Pride even better than last year.

“I am so impressed with what Minyon and Jordan have accomplished on the basketball court, and excited for what lies ahead for them,” Salesian head coach Stephen Pezzola said in a statement. “They both have the talent and work ethic to excel at the next level. Even more importantly, they possess great character, and are key to building the family nature and chemistry of our team enabling our success. These schools are lucky to get them.”
