Kennedy High JV football team caps perfect season with 43-0 win

The Kennedy High junior varsity football team chanted “We All We Got, We All We Need” throughout this season, and it turned out to be very true.

The young Eagles sealed a perfect 10-0 record on Friday by defeating John Swett High School 43-0 at home.

It was a dominating end to a dominating season where the Kennedy JV squad outscored opponents 386-2 in those 10 games. Its defense did not allow a single point, as the two points were scored on a safety.

While all players and coaches had a great game, some players including Freddie Butler (No. 1) had star performances. Butler scored four touchdowns: From a kick-off return, after an interception, and he also threw and caught TDs.

kennedyJV.11-7“Freddie did everything but run for a TD,” teacher and fan Sal Morabito said.

Larry Washington Jr. was also praised for having a star showing to put the high-powered Eagles over the top.

The team’s incredible play and the community’s rallying around the kids truly made this year magical. A lot has to do with the team’s character, with dedicated students who exhibited class, according to fans and coaches.

“The team seemed as though they were unfazed by the record as their humility is a true example of what champions are made of,” community advocate Rodney Alamo Brown said after the game in a Facebook post. “I’ve never seen a more discipline group of young men. They exemplified what sportsmanship is all about. No excessive celebrations, no showing up the competitor. Great job Coach Greg Marshall and the entire coaching staff, faculty and administration.”
